We all know that swimming provides health benefits for people of every age and ability. But an aquatics center would provide so many more benefits to our community.
CONNECTION: “Experts call them ‘third spaces’ or ‘third places’: not a workplace, not our home, but an additional space that plays a vital role in our personal and societal well-being.” Read the full NPR article HERE. Connection is so important to our mental health, and a pool would provide a place for all members of our community to meet up with others and forge personal bonds.
LIFE SAVING WATER SKILLS: Swim lessons should be easy to find, schedule and fund. Young lives depend on this. According to a recent Boston Globe article**, drowning is the leading cause of death among 1- to 4-year-olds in our country. The indoor aquatics center we are working to build would offer a range of lessons for all levels at convenient times.
A VALUABLE COMMUNITY RESOURCE: It’s no secret that Winchester is an amazing place to live. We are fortunate to have access to excellent schools and public resources, Wright-Locke Farm, so many special local shops and vendors, the Fells… the list goes on. Let’s gift our community a pool.
We all have our WHY for supporting the building of a community aquatics center in Winchester. Regardless of your WHY, there is a place for you on the Swim Winchester team. We are looking for volunteers to join us in fundraising, helping with events, and spreading the word. Contact us at info@swimwinchester.org if you’re interested in helping out.
