ON ELECTION DAY, REMEMBER TO ‘FLIP FOR 6’

When you vote on November 5th, remember to flip for 6! On the back side of your ballot, you will find Question #6, which asks whether Winchester will adopt the state’s Community Preservation Act (CPA). As an organization made up of people who care tremendously about this community, we want to share information on the CPA so you can make an informed decision.

  • The CPA is a state law that allows Massachusetts communities to add a small surcharge on local property taxes and gain access to state matching funds.
  • Funds can be used for outdoor recreation, open space protection, affordable housing, and historic preservation.
  • As an indoor facility, the community pool would not be eligible for CPA funds; but there will be more funding for the town’s overall recreational needs. Any outdoor site improvements for the project would qualify.
  • Examples of projects that have been funded by the CPA in other towns include playgrounds, hiking trails, ball fields, and other community recreation projects.
